How Grades Are Calculated
Weighted Average Calculation
The weighted average is calculated by multiplying each course score by its weight, summing these values, and then dividing by the total weight.
Example: If you have two courses:
- Course 1: Score = 85%, Weight = 60%
- Course 2: Score = 90%, Weight = 40%
Weighted Average = (85 × 60 + 90 × 40) ÷ (60 + 40) = (5100 + 3600) ÷ 100 = 8700 ÷ 100 = 87%
GPA Calculation
The GPA is calculated by converting the weighted average percentage to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion:
- 97-100% = 4.0 (A+)
- 93-96% = 4.0 (A)
- 90-92% = 3.7 (A-)
- 87-89% = 3.3 (B+)
- 83-86% = 3.0 (B)
- 80-82% = 2.7 (B-)
- 77-79% = 2.3 (C+)
- 73-76% = 2.0 (C)
- 70-72% = 1.7 (C-)
- 60-69% = 1.0 (D)
- 0-59% = 0.0 (F)
Example: With a weighted average of 87%, the GPA would be 3.3 (B+).
Understanding Course Weights
Course weights represent the relative importance of each course in your overall average. The sum of all weights should typically be 100%.
Example: If you have three courses with weights 40%, 35%, and 25%, these weights indicate that the first course contributes most significantly to your final grade.
Progress Bar Indicators
The progress bar changes color based on your performance:
- Green: 90% and above (Excellent)
- Blue: 80-89% (Good)
- Yellow: 70-79% (Average)
- Red: Below 70% (Needs Improvement)
